It was an entirely different card to the usual bingo cards that managed to make bingo employee Audrey White’s dreams come true! The Bingo hall worker from Felixstowe had more than a few reasons to celebrate, after winning a huge £1m jackpot on a scratchcard. The lucky lady became a millionaire overnight, transforming her life which three years ago was a nightmare.
Back in 2006, Audrey White was facing financial ruin, with her house under threat of repossession and was embroiled in a bitter battle with Natwest bank over an old overdraft. Despite paying £20,000 in interest for a £5,000 overdraft, the bank was still insisting she pay another £18,000, or risk being kicked out of her family home.
To make matters worse, Audrey was suffering from cancer.
Thankfully, the luck of Mrs White was subject to a much needed reversal recently. Seems like Lady luck finally chose to shine on the bingo worker when she popped to her local Tesco’s and purchased her winning ticket.
“It really hasn’t sunk in – it’s just unbelievable,” said Mrs White, 58, who works at the Palace bingo and cinema complex in Crescent Road, Felixstowe.
“People keep saying I didn’t know you could win a million pounds on a scratchcard, but everyone seems to be so happy for me.
“It hasn’t really sunk in yet though. It’s so unreal.
“The first thing I am going to do is to pay off my mortgage and do a few home improvements such as a conservatory.
“I don’t drive so I won’t need a flash car and I am not one for exotic holidays.
Speaking about the moments when she realized that she had struck big, Audrey White said, “When I scratched off the panels and it said £1 million, I just sat and stared at it for 20 minutes.” We are pretty sure it’d take a good few hours for such a massive prize win to sink in for us!
