The Daily mail recently reported that their was currently a ‘Bingo War’ going on between the UK’s two top operators. According to the Daily Mail, it’s been dabbers at dawn, between Mecca and Gala Bingo, since Mecca opened their new Bingo hall in Beeston. Bold statement! Well, we all know Bingo is big news right now. Even so, just how much of that statement is true, is debateable. Well, maybe not so much debateable, as it is, well, old news… When wouldn’t there be an air of competitiveness, between any type of businesses? Doing the same business! That’s definitely not something that’s exclusive to Mecca and Gala. Plus, if there’s a war going on, that’s always ever good news for players. Bring on them promotions as aggressively as you like (you ‘Bad Boys’), without doubt, your members can take as much of it, as you muster!
Just about the whole world and his granny have heard about Mecca Bingo’s revamped, rockin’ and rollin’ Beeston Bingo Hall, in Nottingham. Since it’s doors opened, Beeston has become the stuff made of legends, in Bingo halls up and down the country. As you can imagine, with all that coverage, it has been doing very well, “thank you”. In fact, looking at the Rank Groups (who own Mecca Bingo) revenues for this year, these guys are having a cracking 2009. Which just goes to show, not all the land based Bingo operators are having a hard time. Neil Goulden, from Gala Bingo, recently indicated that the company had little intention of going down the Mecca Beeston route. Primarily, because Gala Bingo reflected the more ‘traditional side’ of the game.
Well, when he made that statement he hadn’t heard the latest. And what is that? You may gladly ask! The latest move from Mecca? The one that is supposedly the next ‘bombshell’, aimed at the Gala camp (but I think the Gala boys and girls on Everest should miss the fallout!). It’s cappuccino coffee, served by some of the slickest looking waiters, ever to grace a Bingo clubs lounge… But! Not only are these guys and gals serving up some of the frothiest ‘café’ in Beeston, they are also the bearers of win, and (according to ‘sources’) some of the best fish and chips around! The great British dish, with a nice bottle of Chianti, anyone? ; )
Back in July, Ian Burke Chief Exec for Mecca, said that the Beeston club was attracting six thousand players. Which, is more than all three of Gala’s clubs, put together, in the Nottingham area. OOOOHHH!!! Now, that could be taken as fighting talk, especially when the competition and everyone else only have their word for it. Plus, there have been a few curious ‘reports’ (using that word lightly), that the local Gala clubs have be sending in their ‘operatives’, to check out what they’ve got in their bunkers! But hey! You know what people are like ; )
Apparently, a lot of the Beeston hall’s success is down to having two separate areas for members. Each of which, can accommodate a substantial amount of people. Each has it’s own purpose, and, according to Ian Burke, the Rank Groups Chief Executive, these areas are the “Key part of the design”. There is a main, dedicated gaming area, where, as Burke suggests, their players can “play bingo in the traditional way”. The atmosphere here is starkly different to that in the members ‘social’ area. In the games room, it is quiet, and people aren’t too happy when that ambience gets disturbed. Thankfully, members can talk as much as they like in the social area. Which means, that everyone gets to be happy : )
